When I launched VitalSentinel, the goal was simple: put everything you need to monitor a website into one dashboard, at a price that doesn't require an enterprise budget. That first generation proved the idea worked. Today I'm announcing the second.
Gen 2 isn't a coat of paint. Over the past several months the product has grown from a solid set of monitoring tools into a genuinely deep platform – dozens of new capabilities, a completely rebuilt visual experience, and hundreds of fixes underneath. This is the version I would have handed to my past self, saying, "Here, this is the one I meant."
Why a Second Generation
The first version of VitalSentinel answered a question I'd been living with for years: why do I need five tools to understand one website? It combined RUM, CrUX, synthetic checks, uptime, robots.txt, and indexing into a single place, plus Web Analytics and integrations.
That foundation held. But as people started running real portfolios on it, it became much clearer what "one platform" really had to be. It wasn't just about having every tool in one login. It was about depth in each one, a coherent way to move between them, and a product that felt as carefully built as the data it was showing you. Gen 2 is the result of chasing that – deepening every module and rebuilding the experience around it.
A Whole New Audit Layer: Inspector
The biggest single addition is Inspector, an on-demand audit you can run against any public URL. It pulls from six data sources in parallel – CrUX, a Chrome lab audit, uptime, SSL, WHOIS, and robots.txt – and runs 130+ rules across technical SEO, Core Web Vitals, security, infrastructure, and availability.
Instead of handing you five disconnected reports, Inspector collapses all of that into a single 0-100 Inspector Score and an engineer-ready list of prioritized fixes. It's the fastest way to go from "something feels off with this page" to "here's exactly what to change, in order."
A Far Deeper Analytics Suite
Web Analytics started as privacy-first, cookieless traffic insight. In Gen 2 it grew into a full analytics workspace. Alongside the Overview you now get Realtime, Audience, and Acquisition views, plus Engagement, Journeys & Goals, and Ecommerce reporting with a dedicated Ecommerce funnel. There's a Performance & Reliability section, a Trends & Anomalies view that surfaces what changed without you hunting for it, and Experiments for measuring the impact of what you ship.
Google Search Console got the same treatment. It's no longer just a mirror of your search data – it's an intelligence layer on top of it. New views cover Clusters, Opportunities, Cannibalization, Internationalization, and Correlations, with Trends & Anomalies, Data Quality, and Experiments rounding it out. Google Analytics (GA4) sits right alongside, so everything lives in one place.
Broader Monitoring Coverage
The core monitoring modules didn't stand still either.
RUM Monitoring now breaks out every Core Web Vital on its own – LCP, CLS, and INP – plus the supporting FCP and TTFB metrics and dedicated Engagement, Errors, and Page Views sections, so you can go straight to the metric you care about.
Robots.txt Monitoring expanded well beyond change detection. It now tracks AI Bots, shows the Impact of your rules, and includes built-in Testers so you can validate directives before they cost you traffic.
Indexing Monitoring grew from a simple count into a proper workflow, with URL Inspections and Properties tracking so you can see not just how many pages are indexed, but which ones and why.
CrUX Monitoring, Synthetic Monitoring (scheduled Lighthouse), and Uptime Monitoring (with SSL certificate monitoring) all carried forward and got steadier and faster in the process.
Unified Alerts, Reports, and Teams
Every domain now has its own Overview, Alerts, Reports, and Settings, so the signal from all of these modules lands in one consistent place per site. For anyone running more than a handful of domains, Gen 2 adds proper Workspaces, Members, and Domain Groups, plus workspace-level Integrations and Billing. It's built to grow from one site to a full portfolio without the tooling getting in your way.
An Upgraded Design
Gen 2 looks like a different product because, honestly, it needed to. It starts with a new logo and a refreshed brand, and the redesign runs all the way through the product you work in every day.
The app itself has been redesigned from the inside out. Dashboards are more spacious and far easier to read, with cleaner layouts, more breathing room between elements, and one consistent visual language across every module. A platform that does this much should feel calm, not crowded, so the one number that matters is easy to find without wading through clutter.
Typography does a lot of that work. The brand now runs on one font stack everywhere: Inter for body text, Space Grotesk as the display face on headings, and Space Mono for code and technical labels. On the marketing site the fonts are fully self-hosted, so nothing is fetched from Google Fonts at build or runtime, which is both faster and more private. Small thing, right tradeoff.
Hundreds of Fixes and Improvements
Beyond the headline features, Gen 2 folds in hundreds of fixes and refinements. Faster loads, steadier data, better handling of edge cases, and a lot of quiet polish across every screen. None of these will get their own announcement, but together they're the difference between software that works in a demo and software you trust with a client's site every day.
What's Coming Next
I want to be straight about what's shipped and what isn't. A couple of things I'm genuinely excited about are on the near-term roadmap but not available yet:
A public API is in the works – a way for developers to pull your monitoring and analytics data programmatically. It's coming soon, but it isn't live today.
A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server is next on my list. The idea is that your AI assistant will be able to query your VitalSentinel data in natural language – ask about a domain's Core Web Vitals or search trends and get a real answer. It's in development, not shipped.
I'm also exploring deeper alerting integrations and webhooks, so the unified alert stream can route into more of the tools you already use. That one's still an idea rather than a plan, but it's the direction I'm heading.
Try Gen 2 Today
Every plan includes all of this. You pay for capacity – how many domains, how much data, how often checks run, and how long history is kept – not for features locked behind higher tiers. And there's a free plan, so you can put the second generation to work without spending anything.
Sign up for free, add your first domain, and you'll see your monitoring data within minutes. As always, I'd genuinely love your feedback – this platform keeps getting better because people tell me where it falls short.
Here's to generation two.
